3/29/2005 1:30:01 PM Iīve read some bad reviews about this product and here iīm gonna explain why I think that is/ Iīm proudly an owner of an AM5 Series III (black) system since year 2000, connected to a Sony SRT-D865 Sorround A/V Amplifier and couldnīt be more happy/ Itīs a fact that bose products are not the most affordable, and worst in my country, but when reviewing a product one has to focus on the product specs, in this case, is a very small 2.1 speaker system, meaning it will never be the same as 2.0 big speakers in terms of volume/ In terms of bass, obviously it will never be as 2 big 10 or 12 woofers, becouse its a matter of acoustics, the air flow moving is less in the acoustimass module, but not for that matter bad/ In one side, the acoustimass module is not a subwoofer module, just as Bose says, why ?? and I am not a Bose share holder, becouse the 2 woofers inside it are placed in a way that bass sound doesnīt come out directly, it is acousticaly treated before and it cames out in a way you can hear the same response at low or high volume and if placed correctly, the bass amount is enormous for the size it has, remember it is all about acoustics, that's why nobody complains about Bose car's audio systems, because they are developed for exactly the car size, acoustics and interior sound absorption, all without big speakers and beleave me, the sound system of the Audi S3 is amazing, perfect/ In the other hand, the 2 "satellites" or cube arrays, are small enought to be placed almost anywhere and if used the Direct Reflecting technology, the sound virtually comes from more than 2 physical spots/ The quality is the same in time and volume and never distorted, in part thanks to the protection circuit inside the acoustimass volume, that prevents from extreme volumes, and believe me, I like it hard and loud, I even use it to practice my drumming on songs/ So, if you have to compare this speakers to a convertional set, be concient of the size of it, and if not sure of the performance, get to listen to it with a person who knows how to get the best of it, donīt get fooled by peopleīs subjective opinion/ I once was a person who loved extreme bass amount and extreme trebles, thatīs why I was using a SE-Q711 Sony digital equalizer, but not anymore cosīthe evolution or listening took me to perfection of sound, natural, real and more close to an actual live perfomance reproduction, where all instruments have a balance and different frecuencies are related to the size and volume of the set, try to listen to a band in a small bar with the instruments amplified just to get even with the natural sound of a drum (not amplified), and then you will see what Bose intended with this product...............or, if you are a lover of live concerts in big stadiums, then this set is simply not right for you, itīs not a beast for power and blowing heads, itīs a delicate piece of art for listening to music, no matter the genre, for example, I listen a lot to Dream Theater, if you never have heard of it, I strongly recomend it, despite this is not music for anyone, itīs very technical music, Iīm a drummer, thatīs why I recomend it and love the AM5/ People who say bad things about this set is like I compare in the same review, the best Desktop PC to the best Laptop, itīs more than obvious than the Laptop is limited by its size, but for the size is the best you can get and can compete fairly with some of the best Desktop Pcs, not just the same or for the same objetive/ In my case, at first I was a bit dissapointed with this speakers, cosī I had the acoustimass module placed with the bass opening pointed to the center of the room, and sometimes under the bed, far from corners, and the bass is not much, in fact, is poor, but itīs simply intelligence, now I have it 35 cms. away from a corner, right to the wall and the bass is rich at all volume selections, and my apartment shakes everytime I play Dream Theater or Moby, or Classical or simply DVD movies and even Pc ultimate games/ Finally, the 2 cubes in the same array sound totally different if placed poiting front or pointing each one to a different wall, the direct reflecting system works just perfect and creates a beautiful rich natural crisp sound, the middles sounds correct if you donīt mess with the receiver configuration, not still the best but check it out, no Sony, Panasonic, Philips or other Brand 2.1 systems sounds like this one, the acoustimass module makes the difference very clear and the "satellites" too, besides of their beauty/ My advice to both audiophiles and the rest, the sound is all about acoustics, the high and mid range reflects and the bass expands, itīs a physicals fact, the 2.0 systems will never sound bad unless you really mess with equlization or surround modes, and the 2.0 systems will always have big bass sound simply becouse of the big size or the woofers, itīs no science, no secret, no challenge to the manufacturer, simply based on noble construction material in both speakers and acoustic boxes, in Bose AM5, itīs all about solutions, little space big response, high quality, protection circuit, bass sound separated from the rest, like it should be, simply becouse it expands, it behaves differently from the rest of the frecuencies/ In conclution, donīt get confused, the sound is great, but you have to be very clear on what is that you want a Porsche is a great car for riding 2 persons, but the worst for a big familiy, itīs all about needs/ In my personal opinion, I like the system to be hiding the most as possible, I hate the space big speakers use with no real need unless I have a very very big space to fill, and shortly I will upgrade my Sony to a Nad A/V Receiver and get more pure and realistic sound, just hear them/ For those who donīt believe in the power or "hiding" the acoustimass module almost anyware and get the sensation of bass anywhere in the place, I have heard the AM5 in a very fashion women cloth shop in a Shopping center, 5 times bigger than the room I have them installed and the 2 arrays where in the oposite corners on the ceiling and sound great, very very clear, and bass sounds almost the same in every corner of the shop and I have searched it several times with a friend, and neither could find it yet, better prove that that I canīt imagine, fillinf the room, vitually invisible, Bose doesnīt lie, fans of 2.0 speakers are not open minded for new technologies/ Donīt worry, there are many espectacular 2.0 systems, but this 2.1 es excellent, very recomendable, but be sure of what you are buying/ By the way, I am from Argentina, the shop is in the "Unicenter" called "Wanama", and here this system costs U$S 900, what can we do...........hope it will help someone in the buying process of the perfect speaker system/ |

3/11/2000 1:27:02 PM Best music purchase I've ever made. Could'nt be more pleased. The sound is incredible and the most amazing part is the small size of the speakers. They virtually disappear in the room. The subwoofer tucks away behind a couch or where ever you want to hide it. I'm in awe of the clear clean sound - highs and lows. Don't be fooled by the small size - the sound is BIG!!! |
