An enhanced version of the well-known PIX 515 platform, Cisco's PIX 515E Firewall optimally provides stateful firewalling and IPSec VPN services. Designed for small to mid-sized businesses, as well as enterprise remote offices, the PIX 515E Series' increased processing power and integrated, hardware-based IPSec acceleration delivers even more robust performance for meeting high-throughput security requirements. The versatile PIX 515E 1RU chassis platform is an excellent choice for organizations requiring a cost-effective security solution with DMZ support. The PIX 515E Unrestricted (PIX 515E-UR) model provides support for stateful failover, additional LAN interfaces, and increased VPN throughput via integrated hardware-based VPN acceleration. It includes an integrated VAC, 64MB of RAM, and support for up to (6) 10/100 Fast Ethernet interfaces. The PIX 515E-UR also adds the ability to share state information with a hot-standby PIX Firewall for total firewall redundancy. Tightly integrated with the PIX Operating System (a proprietary, hardened O/S that eliminates the security holes and performance degrading overhead typically found in general-purpose operating environments) this purpose-built firewall appliance offers unprecedented levels of security, reliability, and performance. At the heart of this system is a protection scheme based on the Adaptive Security Algorithm (ASA), offering stateful, connection-oriented firewalling while at the same time blocking common denial of service (DoS) attacks. The Cisco PIX 515E is also a full-featured VPN gateway that can securely transport data over public networks. The PIX 515E supports both site-to-site and remote access VPN applications via 56-bit or 168-bit Triple DES encryption. Depending on which PIX.
