10/1/2009 1:18:41 PM Nikon's 18-200 lens is a good all around lens. In my opinion it's overpriced and over rated. Unless you shake a lot you are paying 800.00 for a 200mm lens at f5.6. The vr does not keep your subject from blurring if they are moving. At f 5.6 you need the best of lighting conditions to shoot even the slowest moving objects. Forget about sporting events with night lighting or overcast conditions. Forget weddings with dim lighting. I think most people don't understand that the widest f-stop they can get at 200mm is f5.6. f3.5 is only at 18mm. Buy a nice 200mm f4 or even the f2.8 and all your friends will be amazed at your pictures. Yes it is twice the price. But you can buy a f5.6 200mm lens for 50 bucks that is 5 years old. Find a 25 year old f2.8 and you will still pay 450.00. It's all in the glass. |
