This is my newest digital camera. I have a C-3000z and a C-2100Ultrazoom which I have been using for over a year. The 3040 seems to be identical to the 3000 except for the f1.8 lens. I have not been able to see that as an advantage. For me it is a major disadvantage because it cannot take the excellent sunset or sunrise pictures that I get with the 3000 or the 2100. Even closing it down to -2.0 it is too bright and the sunset no longer looks like a sunset. I shoot all of my pictures at SHQ resolution on the job (industrial imaging) and I have not been able to see any difference when printed at 8 x 10. If I could only have one digital camera it would be the C3000Z. One fault I have with both of the cameras is the inability to put on a usable convenient UV filter. Recently I have been taking a lot of aerial photos of construction sites and try to use the C2100UZ as much as possible because of the screw-in UV filter. note: See my ratings of the C3000Z and the C2100UZ.

if you are buying a dig. camera this is the one that will amaze you. I have used the lowest quality setting and still get great clear pics. I have own two cameras prior to this one and thur allot of research came this this one.

Addendum to my previous review...The Olympus 3040 DOES have a slide show but it goes by the name Auto Play Back.

This my second Digital camera and have become familiar with it. Comparing to the Epson 850Z that I have kept, the Olympus 3040 is smaller, lighter, quieter and looks like a real camera. I like black cameras. The pictures are quite good, but I'm somewhat surprised to note that they're not THAT much better than the Epson. The USB has always been a problem with the 850z but the Oly has been a quick breeze to up and down-load. Some complaints...1)Not much difference between 650kb HQ and 9 meg! Tiff. Hmmm. Even blowing it up doesn't always demonstrate an advantage. 2) The cheesey Olympus lens cap is weak! The Epson has a delightful auto open-close plastic cover that is terrific. 3)Despite the fast 1.8 lense, the low light performance isn't any better than the Epson. 4)No slide show capability! Too bad too..because it's really a snap to upload photos! In fairness, the remote allows TV viewing and you can manually flip the pics. Also, no time lapse capability that I can figure out. (Epson has both) 5)Auto focus gets confused in low light situations. Yes, I do like it better than the Epson for the following reasons...1)Small,light, quiet and black 2)Fast processing of pics (except for the TIFFS that take forever and don't render any detectible improvement). 3)Extremely comprehensive written manual. 4)Great color saturation in pics (My 850z is slightly pale by comparison) 5)Very handsome and professional looking tool---The Epson looks more like one of those largish cheap 35mm knockoffs. 6) Pretty decent battery life if you use NiMH and stay away from continuous auto-focus. 7)Reliable! Although my Epson looks silly it delivers excellnt photos whose saturation can be doctored. But the 850z seems to get confosed in unpredictible ways. Sometimes it just won't work for about 15 minutes..even with good batteries! The Oly just purrs along every time. 8) Macro capability is good, (not great) but better than the 850z. 9)Can take 15 fps movies that are cute but not very useful. 10) Wireless remote control-good for self portraits or group photos! I've decide I'm keeping both, but I prefer the Olympus when I travel.
