This is my first digital camera and I love it. The option dial is easy to use: picture, movie, playback, album. The huge LCD screen makes it easy to view the shot even in direct sunlight. Also it makes it easy for friends to crowd around to see how the picture came out.
I heard some downs about the picture quality, but so far I've had no complaints. Its 5 megs so how bad could it be?? I think its super clear and really crisp. The zoom, like I said, isnt that great, but it does offer digital zoom is you feel so inclined. I am not a fan of digital zoom, so I tend to stay away.
The movie function is great because you get to film with the sound and its not too bad for a digital camera. I was impressed. There is no zoom or flash during filming so you have to make sure you're close enough and the room is lit enough.
There is also a feature where you can take a still shot and then record about 5 seconds worth of sound. It resembles those picture frames where you put in a picture of yourself then record a message like, "Happy Birthday Grandma." You'd probably not use this feature too much, but its neat enough to show your friends. ;)
The camera has several features I have yet to try, but so far I'm pretty happy with the standard click and shoot. There is a 2 in 1 option where you can take 2 vertical pictures and place them side by side in one shot (resembles a mugshot type deal). Good for before and afters or front and side pictures. I use this feature when taking a picture of my outfits or costumes.
The automatic picture taker is great too. It gives you about 10 seconds to get the shot ready and then it blinks about 3 or 4 times. It also gives you the option of getting a remote to trigger the automatic shutter. So that's neat.
The flashes are good. The red-eye flash works semi-well although I havent really tested it that much. Neither is the software that comes with it. It kinda does nothing but create albums, so dont expect much there.
As for playback, its damn near perfect. The camera also comes with a cord that you can hook the camera up to your tv to allow for better viewing of the movies or slideshows.
As for the price, I'd shop around. If you just want the camera, then you could probably get it around $300. I bought this camera from cametacamera off ebay and for $394 (includes shipping) I got the camera (and all it comes with: 32 card, a battery, a charger, wrist strap, cables, year warranty, etc), an extra battery, a 512 meg card, a card reader, a tripod, a shutterfly gift certificate, cleaning cloth, and carrying case. Its a fantastic deal.
I am very happy with my choice, and I shopped around forever!! I would suggest going to a best buy or similar store to handle the camera yourself before purchasing... but I dont think you'll be disappointed.
