Capture your next big event without tapes or DVDs and record directly to hard drive. The DCR-SR87 Handycam camcorder contains an 80GB hard disk drive to store all of your high-quality videos and stills. With 20x optical / 800x digital zoom and a Carl Zeiss 60x optical zoom lens, everything will be as clear as you remember it. This camcorder also features hybrid recording technology, which gives you the flexibility to record video to the hard drive or Memory Stick PRO Duo media. You can even transfer your video without a PC by connecting directly to the optional DVDirect DVD burner (VRD-P1).80GB hard disk drive:
A built-in 80GB hard disk drive can record and store up to 56 hours of video footage in SD LP mode. In addition, “HDD Smart Protection” gives you peace of mind by preventing any recorded video and images from being lost if the camcorder is accidentally dropped.
1/6" Advanced HAD CCD Imager:
A 1/6" Advanced HAD (Hole Accumulation Diode) CCD Imager with (effective) pixels provides stunning detail and clarity for exceptional video and still image performance.

Hybrid Recording to HDD or Memory Stick Duo media:
Hybrid recording technology delivers a new level of flexibility of capturing and transferring your video footage and digital photos from the camcorder to compatible viewing devices. Record to 80GB1 hard disk drive or choose instead to record to removable Memory Stick PRO Duo media (sold separately). You can even select from various dubbing functions to easily copy video or still images from the HDD to the Memory Stick media -- without using a PC.
Direct connection with DVD burner (sold separately):
The DCR-SR87 supports a direct connection with the VRD-P1 DVD burner (sold separately), which allows you to burn DVDs directly from your camcorder without the need for a PC. And because the VRD-P1 is powered by your camcorder, you don't need an additional AC power cable.
25X Optical / 2000X Digital Zoom:
25X optical zoom help you capture close-up action while keeping your distance. In addition, Digital Zoom Interpolation means that extreme digital zooming (up to 2000X) is clearer, with less distortion than previous types of digital zooms.
2.7” wide touch panel LCD display (123k pixels):
The 2.7" wide touch panel LCD display provides exceptional viewing clarity with 123K pixels resolution. The display rotates up to 270 degrees for multiple viewing angles, as well as provides sharp, detailed images for monitoring or playback. Film Roll Index:
Like chapters in a book, Film Roll Index helps you easily find desired scenes in video footage. When using this feature, the camcorder previews the beginning of scenes and can create scene indexes set at specified display intervals (3, 6, or 12 seconds and 1 or 5 minutes).
Face Index function:
Face Index makes it easier than ever to find and play back the right video scene. Using Face Detection technology, Face Index indexes your video footage according to the faces detected in each scene. When it’s time to play back video, simply search for what you want by selecting from among the detected faces displayed in the index.
USB 2.0 interface:
A USB 2.0 interface provides an easy way to connect your camcorder to a compatible PC for fast transfer of video and still images for editing.

Buying Tips
