PriceSCAN Press Release
PriceSCAN Vice President of Financial Products Daniel Fehder commented that our Blu-ray DVD Index dropped 3% last week adding to a 7% drop so far in October.
Jeff Trester, PriceSCAN Co-CEO and Chief Economist, noted, “Blu-ray players continue to search for a price bottom as we enter the holiday shopping season, and so far without success. Some of this may be due to limited consumer interest in the technology and/or competition from online alternatives like Netflix’s Roku. However, in the context of the overall retail weakness we’re seeing right now, one has to be concerned this is an indicator of soft demand for leading edge consumer technology. It will be interesting to see whether this decline follows through to the Blu-ray equipped PlayStation 3, who’s pricing Sony has so far held firm.”
