PriceSCAN Press Release
PriceSCAN Vice President of Financial Products Daniel Fehder commented that our 40 inch 1080p LCD Index dropped 12% in Q3 2008 including a drop of 6% in September alone. In contrast, the index only declined 6% in Q2 2008 and 0% in Q1.
Jeff Trester, PriceSCAN Co-CEO and Chief Economist, noted, “This is a fairly stunning drop in the price of state of the art high-definition televisions of a size sought by many households. One would have to consider 40 inch 1080p LCD televisions a bellwether of the consumer electronics market, so this current accelerating price decline may be indicative of the economic slowdown and financial crisis affecting the retail sector. This is obviously not a good sign for the strength of the coming holiday shopping season.”
