Six Percent Drop in Blu-ray Index Last Week
PriceSCAN Vice President of Financial Products Daniel Fehder commented that the Blu-ray Index dropped 6% last week. This decline marks a 12.8% drop since the beginning of the fourth quarter.
Jeff Trester, PriceSCAN Co-CEO and Chief Economist, noted, “It appears Blu-ray player prices are beginning to crash ahead of the holiday shopping season. The promised release of a new generation of 3D Blu-ray players may be reducing demand for current models in an already weak consumer electronics market, motivating manufacturers and retailers to accelerate the pace of markdowns.”
